Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign was devoting its resources on college voters in the election’s final hours Tuesday evening, even tapping Hollywood A-listers.
The Harris campaign said it likes the enthusiasm it sees from college students, with lines in swing states to vote lasting for hours. For example, in North Carolina, long lines remained at Appalachian State University, which sits in a rural district. As of 4:30 pm, there was still a long line to vote.
In Pennsylvania, the wait to vote at Lehigh University in Bethlehem was seven hours, and the campaign says it’s seen similar lines on the campuses of other schools, including Temple University in Philadelphia and Lafayette University in Easton.
In Wisconsin, eight college campuses have lines exceeding an hour, according to the campaign.
To encourage college-aged voters to stay in line, the Harris campaign has mobilized a star-studded roster of celebrities.
Paul Rudd is visiting students in line to vote at the University of Pennsylvania and Jennifer Garner has Face Timed students at Villanova in Pennsylvania.
Other celebrities who’ve Face Timed students and encouraged them to remain in the line include Josh Gad at Lehigh University, Mark Cuban at the University of North Carolina and Demi Lovato at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
Ms. Harris has a more than 50-point lead over former President Donald Trump among college students in the seven swing states, according to a Generation Lab poll released Monday. The Harris campaign is hoping such a commanding lead could move some of the swing states into her corner.
The poll found that 76% of the college students were voting for Ms. Harris, compared to 24% who planned to vote for Mr. Trump.
