A security guard at Sunday’s game between the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills told a fan that he couldn’t wear a “Trump 2024” shirt at Highmark Stadium in western New York. A video of the exchange has gone viral on social media.
In the video, a stadium staffer informs the fan that the shirt isn’t permitted in the front row based on NFL policy.
“It’s not a Trump shirt [policy],” the on-field staffer said. “It’s nothing political.”
Some fans were angry at the shirt order, with one shouting, “It’s a free country!”
The NFL hasn’t published any policy prohibiting political attire. The Bills’ code of conduct for fans prohibits only “obscene or offensive” material. The stadium guidelines also bar “any conduct deemed to be inappropriate or dangerous.”
The Erie County Republican Committee, which has an office 20 minutes away from the stadium, offered to send more Trump apparel to the unidentified fan.
“What a joke,” the organization wrote on X.
The Bills and the NFL haven’t publicly commented on the situation.
