As repeatedly reported by The Washington Times and other media, Washington’s U.S. government workforce seems to be absent from its appointed places of duty (“No more working in pajamas: Musk, Ramaswamy target teleworking for federal employees,” web, Nov. 21).

This is reminiscent of the time that then-President Ronald Reagan first visited the Pentagon. When he made note of the scarcity of military personnel working in the five-sided military headquarters, he was told that the prior administration had enabled the military to wear civilian clothing because of the bad will the civilian populace had toward the military.

The next day, the military became very visible in their uniforms in the Pentagon.

All it takes is a president with strong leadership skills to fix lax standards. Remember when Reagan fired all the air controllers who went on strike and failed to show up for work?

If President-elect Donald Trump says in his inauguration speech that all the missing civilian workers in Washington will be replaced starting tomorrow with employees who will report to their assigned places of duty, I can guarantee these people will start showing up.

All it takes to fix most problems is a major dose of reality.
