The Washington Commanders have placed kicker Austin Seibert on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.
Seibert missed three kicks, including a potential game-tying extra point, during Sunday’s 34-26 loss to the rival Dallas Cowboys.
Seibert had missed Washington’s last two games with a hip injury.
“I felt fine. That’s why I made the decision to play, and here we are,” Seibert said after Sunday’s game. “Just didn’t play well.”
Seibert will not be eligible to return from injured reserve until Washington’s Week 18 game in Dallas.
Practice squad kicker Zane Gonzalez will likely take over while Seibert recovers. Gonzalez converted all three of his field goal attempts and four extra-point attempts while filling in for Seibert earlier this season.
With the available space on the active roster, the Commanders signed running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. Starting running backs Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler were both injured on Sunday and could miss Washington’s upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans.
Robinson missed most of the game with an ankle injury he suffered on the first play from scrimmage. Ekeler was briefly hospitalized after suffering a concussion on a kickoff return late in the fourth quarter.
Rodriguez had spent the last two seasons with the Commanders before he was waived on Saturday. The Kentucky product has carried the ball 13 times for 56 yards this season.
