Boxers Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, who fought last Friday night, have been suspended from the ring for more than three weeks.
The bout in Texas, shown live on Netflix, lasted eight 2-minute rounds before Paul, 27, was unanimously declared the victor. The fight was the 58-year-old Tyson’s first officially sanctioned bout since 2005.
Under rules from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which sanctioned the fight, each fighter must have at least three days of rest for each round they fought. Tyson and Paul will be out of the ring for the mandatory 24 days.
Fighters are allowed to appeal their medical suspensions in a hearing with TDLR to prove they are still fit to compete in the ring.
Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, whose undercard bout ended with Taylor keeping her super lightweight championship belt, were ordered not to fight for 45 days.
Serrano suffered a cut above her right eye and initially accused Taylor of purposely headbutting her in the ring after the fight. She has since offered her congratulations to Taylor.
“Congratulations to @KatieTaylor in her decision win. Tempers are flared when you’re in the heat of battle & you say things you shouldn’t say. I’m not one to ever disrespect an opponent & these were never my intentions to Katie. … In no way should I ever had said she did it purposely, it’s her style that makes for them. … Whenever our teams can agree on a Trilogy I’ll be ready,” Serrano wrote on X on Saturday.
