Former Rep. Liz Cheney urged former President George W. Bush to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris in the homestretch to Election Day.

Ms. Cheney is a prominent anti-Trump Republican, a big reason she lost her 2022 reelection bid in Wyoming’s GOP primary in a landslide to Harriet Hageman.

Now Ms. Cheney is a surrogate on the campaign trail for Ms. Harris and wants Mr. Bush to likewise back the vice president.

“I can’t explain why George W. Bush hasn’t spoken out, but I think it’s time, and I wish that he would,” Ms. Cheney said Friday on “The New Yorker Radio Hour.”

Mr. Bush has stuck by his promise to not endorse anyone in the 2024 race while members of his administration have backed Ms. Harris

His vice president, Dick Cheney, backed Ms. Harris in September and condemned former President Donald Trump as someone who “can never be trusted with power again.”

Mr. Cheney added, “In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.”

Mr. Bush’s White House communications director, Nicolle Wallace, told MSNBC on Friday that she hoped Mr. Bush would have a “change of heart” in his decision to not get involved in this election.

Even members of the Bush family have endorsed the vice president. Barbara Pierce Bush, the former president’s daughter,  canvassed for Ms. Harris in battleground Pennsylvania in October.

“It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters with the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend,” Ms. Bush told People magazine. “I’m hopeful they’ll move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”
