Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a resolution Monday to prohibit transgender women from using female bathrooms at the Capitol.
Ms. Mace, South Carolina Republican, who often advocates to keep males out of female athletic competitions, told Fox News, “The sanctity of protecting women and standing up against the Left’s systematic erasure of biological women starts here in the nation’s Capitol.”
According to the text of the resolution, the measure bans “Members, officers, and employees of the House from using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex, and for other purposes.”
The House sergeant-at-arms would enforce the rule.
The resolution comes just weeks before the House is expected to swear in a new Congress which will include Rep.-elect Sarah McBride, Delaware Democrat, 34, who will become the first transgender congressional lawmaker. The Washington Times reached out to McBride.
The response to the resolution could become dicey given the location of the men’s and women’s restrooms that House lawmakers use during votes.
There are two restrooms exclusively intended for male and female lawmakers located off the House floor on opposite wings, just outside the Speaker’s Lobby.
The women’s restroom is located on the Democrat side of the floor, while the men’s room is located on the GOP side.
Republicans used the transgender issue to their advantage during the presidential election and pounded Democrats over their support of people born as biological males competing in female sports, taxpayer-funded sex changes and gender transitions for minors.
