President-elect Donald Trump on Friday announced that Steven Cheung, who served as his spokesperson on all three presidential campaigns, will serve as White House communications director.
In addition, Mr. Trump announced that Sergio Gor, the former CEO of the company that produces his books, will oversee the presidential personnel office.
“Steven Cheung and Sergio Gor have been trusted advisers since my first presidential campaign in 2016 and have continued to champion America First principles throughout my first term, all the way to our historic victory in 2024,” Mr. Trump said in a statement.
Mr. Cheung has been a longtime fixture in Mr. Trump’s inner circle, working alongside Susie Wiles, soon to be the next president’s chief of staff, and Chris LaCivita on his 2024 campaign, known for his sharp-tongued comments to the press. Those statements often featured barbed attacks on Democrats and even Mr. Trump’s critics in the GOP.
Raised by Chinese immigrant parents in California, Mr. Cheung worked on several Republican political campaigns before becoming a spokesman for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He then left UFC to work on Mr. Trump’s 2016 campaign.
In the first Trump administration, he served as special assistant to the president and assistant communications director. After leaving the Trump White House in 2020, he served as a communications consultant for several GOP campaigns.
Mr. Gor will be focused on filling jobs in the administration and other personnel matters. He was the CEO of Winning Team Publishing, which he co-founded with Mr. Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr.
The elder Trump has published three books through the company, including one with the now-iconic photo of the bloodied president-elect pumping his fist in the air after an assassination attempt in July. The cheapest of the books retails for $74.99.
Mr. Gor was also the chief executive of a super PAC that spent tens of millions of dollars on the Republican candidates on behalf of major donors such as Ike Perlmutter, the former CEO of Marvel Entertainment.
He also in 2021 officiated the wedding of then-Rep. Matt Gaetz, the Florida Republican whom Mr. Trump tapped this week as his pick for attorney general.
