Sen. John Fetterman called President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of Rep. Matt Gaetz for attorney general a drastic level of trolling.

Mr. Trump announced Wednesday the tapping of Mr. Gaetz, Florida Republican, to head the Justice Department, shocking some lawmakers and cheering conservatives.

Mr. Fetterman, Pennsylvania Democrat, said he would “describe it as god-tier level trolling that has triggered a full-on China Syndrome to own the libs in perpetuity.”

A clip of him making the comment to an NBC reporter has gone viral on X.

Mr. Fetterman responded in his own X post Wednesday, saying, “There have been serious, qualified individuals nominated to posts, like [Marco] Rubio or [Elise] Stefanik. Eric Schmitt would be a solid choice for AG.

“But Dem opinions on Gaetz aren’t that interesting. The good ones will come from my GOP colleagues to justify a vote for that j—off.”

Mr. Gaetz has faced investigation by the House Ethics Committee into whether he engaged in sexual misconduct, accepted improper gifts, dispensed special privileges or used illicit drugs.

He has also faced a sex trafficking probe by the Justice Department — the very department he would head if confirmed by the Senate.

He was never charged by the Justice Department but still faces investigation by the House. He has denied all the allegations.

After the nomination Wednesday, Mr. Gaetz resigned immediately from the House.
