Amazon will shut down Freevee, its free, advertising-supported streaming service, the company has announced.

According to reports, content exclusive to Freevee will be moved to Amazon Prime in the coming weeks. Additionally, new episodes of Freevee-exclusive shows will remain free to watch on Prime Video.

“There will be no change to the content available for Prime members, and a vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members, including select Originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed movies and series, and a broad library of FAST channels-all available on Prime Video,” Amazon said in a statement.

Rumors of Amazon shuttering Freevee have circulated since early this year after the company introduced advertising breaks to Amazon Prime. However, no layoffs will accompany Freevee’s closure, with most of the company’s staff having already been integrated into Amazon proper.

Freevee began in 2019 when it launched through Amazon subsidiary IMDB as Freedive. Amazon rebranded the service as Freevee in 2022 and has raked in millions of viewers and numerous hit shows since.
