U.S. regulators are investigating over 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles after receiving numerous engine failure reports.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened the probe Tuesday into Honda’s 2018-20 Odyssey, 2016-20 Pilot and 2017-19 Ridgeline over the reports. The investigation also covers 2016-20 MDX and TLX models from Acura, which is owned by Honda.

According to the NHTSA, connecting rod bearings in Honda and Acura vehicles with 3.5-liter V6 engines could break. The agency said there have been around 1,450 warranty claims related to the bearing rods issue but no reported injuries.

This week’s recall is not the first time Honda has recalled its vehicles over possible bearing rod issues. In 2023, the company recalled around 250,000 vehicles with the 3.5-liter V6 engine due to a manufacturing error that could cause the bearings to degrade.

Honda has recalled over 1.7 million vehicles since the start of 2024.
