OPINION:
The hard-left billionaire George Soros and his heir apparent son Alex have championed, with donations, defunding the police movement, open borders and soft prosecutors.
But then came Nov. 5. Then former President Donald Trump beat Mr. Soros. And, in California, where the hedge fund operator has poured so much cash, liberal voters turned anti-Soros, saying with their ballots they want a war on criminals.
They ousted one of Mr. Soros’ favorite and well-funded prosecutors, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon ($3 million Soros dollars). Up north, Oakland-area voters kicked out the soft-on-crime prosecutor Pamela Price and city mayor Sheng Thao. (Have you seen videos of destructive “road rallies” in Oakland? No one apparently gets arrested, and businesses say they can’t survive such destructive mayhem.)
In San Francisco, where liberals are tired of boarded-up stores, human street poop and obnoxious homeless, they defeated Mayor London Breed in favor of anti-crime candidate Daniel Lurie.
Two years ago, the city’s residents recalled Soros-backed District Attorney Chesa Boudin. Mr. Boudin backed Ryan Khojasteh in this year’s race, but current DA Brooke Jenkins, a pro-victim prosecutor, soundly defeated him.
Also, on election day, Californians overwhelmingly approved Proposition 36. It overrode the goofy state legislature’s move to decriminalize shoplifting.
Gov. Gavin Newsom doesn’t really care. He responded to Mr. Trump’s election victory by declaring war. Mr. Newsom is essentially saying, Mr. Trump, you better not touch one of our gang members, illegal migrants, or there will be trouble.
Last year, local Democrats across the country who had embraced the “defund the police” movement woke up. The political reality is that law-abiding Americans want the police around them to protect against thieves, carjackers, muggers and murderers. The epiphany came a little late, as violent crime exploded in 2022, according to revised FBI numbers.
When the FBI and local police departments are creating organized retail theft task forces to try to save businesses and communities, you know crime is not dropping as Democrats and Alex Soros pretended.
George Soros, who lives comfortably in a protected gated compound not far from a well-funded police department, was the granddaddy of defunding the police.
In 2021, during the height of the defund movement, Mr. Soros’ Open Society Foundation gave $4.5 million to Demand Justice, an anti-police group founded by former Justice Department operative Brian Fallon.
“Defund the Police,” he tweeted in June 2020 amid the George Floyd riots and protests.
Mr. Fallon ended up on the Kamala Harris campaign as a senior adviser.
Demand Justice is today focusing on ruining the Supreme Court because liberals don’t like its decisions. A model for this is the Soviet Union.
The third election-day killer for Democrats was President’ Biden’s traitorous idea to open the southern border to Mexican drug cartel traffickers. The murderous drug pushers made billions of dollars, shipping millions of unknown foreigners illegally into our country, including hundreds of thousands of children, some destined for sex and slave labor networks.
Again, Mr. Soros is the silent hand. His Open Society provides cash to Alianza Hispanoamericana NFP, a nonprofit that works to eliminate the U.S. Border Patrol and all enforcement.
At $128 million, Mr. Soros was the top Democratic donor for the 2022 midterm elections. His Democracy PAC was a top Harris donor at $15 million, according to OpenSecrets.Org.
What we need to realize in this Soros-Democratic Party marriage is that the Democrats slowly metamorphosed into George Soros.
They fell in love with ideologies, money and power, throwing basic Americans to the curb. They and their surrogates came up with several adjectives to delegitimize those who disagree with them: Racists, patriarchy, Christian nationalists, deplorables, fascists, Nazis, un-American, and the Joe Biden favorite, “garbage.”
Democrats figure their majority would be cobbled together among public teachers unions, government workers, abortion rights, impressionable college students and their professor influencers, and the left-wing activist class.
When Democrats pose for photographs with Alex Soros high stop his skyscraper New York condo, they are figuratively and literally looking down on us.
It’s important to read Soros’s blueprint, the 1998 book The Crisis of Global Capitalism, to fully understand what the Soros clan wants to do to America.
For the freest, most powerful country in the world, he wants our destiny turned over to whacky global groups run by Third World incompetents and funded by billionaires like himself.
“The sovereignty of states must be subordinated to international law and international institutions,” he wrote, adding, “We need a new international authority that transcends the sovereignty of states to promote an open society.”
He wrote, “It is a shocking thing, but the United States has become the most retrograde country in the world with regard to preserving all the trappings of sovereignty.”
In 2023, Heritage Foundation scholars fought back against the Soros reordering.
Heritage’s Charles “Cully” Stimson, who manages its National Security Law Program, and Zack Smith, a former federal prosecutor in Florida, co-authored the book, “Rogue Prosecutors: How Radical Soros Lawyers Are Destroying America’s Communities.”
The book explains “how a radical movement funded and conceived by George Soros — and ostensibly designed to ‘reverse engineer’ the criminal justice system as we know it — has succeeded in replacing law and order prosecutors with pro-criminal, anti-victim zealots.”
I asked Mr. Stimson to assess Mr. Soros and the 2024 election.
“His radical rogue social experiment is a massive failure,” he said.
