Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene shot back at Fox News for calling her an “idiot” because she’s pushing to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson.
“Fox News called me an idiot. That was literally their headline. They called me an idiot,” Ms. Greene told former Trump adviser Steve Bannon on his “War Room” podcast this week. “But what I’ve done is expose what was already happening in the dark.”
The Georgia Republican was referring to Fox News commentator Liz Peek’s op-ed last month with the headline “Marjorie Taylor Greene is an idiot. She is trying to wreck the GOP.”
Ms. Peek led off by writing, “It’s high time someone in the Republican Party told Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to turn all that bombastic self-serving showmanship and drama queen energy on Democrats, and stop trying to defeat her own party.”
Ms. Peeke added, “The internal squabbles of the party need to stop. If Marjorie Taylor Greene and others want to oppose aid to Ukraine or the FISA bill, they can vote against it. That’s how democracy works. My message for MTG? Borrowing from Hillary Clinton: Get over yourself. The mission today is to elect Donald Trump.”
Most House Republicans, save for Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Paul Gosar of Arizona, are against Ms. Greene’s move to boot Mr. Johnson.
But the growing criticism from within the GOP, along with former President Donald Trump throwing support behind the speaker, has not killed Ms. Greene’s desire to send Mr. Johnson, Louisiana Republican, packing.
Indeed, her rebuttal on “War Room” came after she finally pulled the trigger on her motion to vacate the chair, setting the date for a vote next week. Democrats have promised to save Mr. Johnson, an outcome Ms. Greene believes is a foregone conclusion.
“The beautiful thing about it is Democrats have to come clean; they were controlling Mike Johnson anyway,” she said.
