Over the past few decades we have witnessed a Marxist-style cultural revolution in our country that has attempted to cancel our history and take away our constitutionally guaranteed rights. Leaders of this absurdity seek to destroy anyone who speaks out against it.

The recent commencement speech of Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker at a small Catholic college has been condemned by the radical left and the National Football League (“Uproar after conservative Catholic NFL player expresses conservative Catholic views,” web, May 16). The NFL openly supports the Marxist Black Lives Matter movement and its anti-American and anti-family views, and has allowed players to disrespect our flag, national anthem and country. But it distances itself from Mr. Butker.

When our Constitution was written, there were many prayers asking for divine intervention in support of the finalization of the document. George Mason insisted that the Constitution have a Bill of Rights, guaranteeing individual freedoms including speech, religion and due process. John Winthrop believed the New World was an extension of the Protestant Reformation and that as long as we worked hard in ways that pleased God, we would have his blessings and prosper.

The NFL needs to understand that we are still a country with Judeo-Christian beliefs and values, and we are disgusted by the treatment Mr. Butker is getting. I would highly recommend that the NFL remember who the fans are and who pays the bills. If anyone needs to be fired, it’s the NFL’s diversity, equity and inclusion officer.

This entire episode has most Americans disgusted, Winthrop and Mason turning over in their graves, and God less than pleased.
