President Biden’s campaign launched a new seven-figure ad buy Thursday, ramping up his attacks on state laws restricting abortion and linking those measures to former President Donald Trump.
The ads will run on the second anniversary of the leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion that overturned Roe v. Wade and transferred the decision about abortion laws to the states.
Titled “Prosecute,” the ad features a Texas OB-GYN physician talking about the state’s near-total abortion ban forcing her to flee her state to receive treatment after she learned that her fetus had a fatal condition and would not survive.
“If Donald Trump is elected, that is the end of a woman’s right to choose. There will be no place to turn. We could lose our rights in every state, even the one where abortion is currently legal,” she says.
The spot also features a portion of Mr. Trump’s interview with Time magazine in which he said that it should be up to the states to decide whether to prosecute women who receive abortions or monitor women’s pregnancies to know if they underwent an abortion procedure.
The ad will run in battleground states targeting young, diverse audiences by airing on ESPN, TNT, Bravo, FX, Freeform and Comedy Central. It will also air during the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.
It underscores Mr. Biden’s efforts to tie Mr. Trump to abortion restrictions in states. So far, the campaign has aired six other television commercials on abortion rights, according to data from AdImpact, a political ad-tracking firm.
A spokesperson for the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
