Self-service security screening is available for TSA PreCheck customers at the Las Vegas airport, the Transportation Security Administration announced Wednesday.
Eligible travelers at Harry Reid International Airport can follow instructions on a monitor as they screen themselves at their own pace.
When fliers are done with screening and cleared to go, automatic doors let them out of the security area, the TSA said in a release.
The trial period for the self-service system began Wednesday, according to USA Today.
The TSA emphasized that the “same rigorous screening standards and rules required of passengers using the TSA PreCheck lanes apply to the self-screening lane.”
The system is available only in English right now, reported The Associated Press.
The self-screening system, an initiative of the TSA and Homeland Security Department, aims to achieve travel security more efficiently by eliminating extra steps like pat-downs.
TSA PreCheck lanes are already faster than standard airport security. PreCheck travelers get through the process in 10 minutes on average, while regular security screening takes 30 minutes, TSA spokesman R. Carter Langston told AP.
The agencies will evaluate the performance of the self-screening system in Las Vegas before expanding it to other airports.
