During Super Tuesday’s election coverage on MSNBC, the hosts mocked Virginia voters for calling the immigration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border the most pressing issue facing America today.

Jen Psaki, former press secretary for President Biden, along with hosts Joy Reid and Rachel Maddow discussed the preliminary exit polls in Virginia.

“I live in Virginia. Immigration was the No. 1 issue,” Ms. Psaki said. Ms. Reid laughed and then Ms. Maddow chimed in, saying, “Well, Virginia does have a border with West Virginia.”

Exit polls found that former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies are held in high regard, with 64% of Virginia voters trusting him on border security. Meanwhile, 28% of voters called the influx of illegals at the border their main concern, putting the issue ahead of the economy and inflation.

The MSNBC mockery came as Mr. Trump won nearly all of the primaries on Super Tuesday — including Virginia, where ahead of the primaries he vehemently criticized Mr. Biden’s border strategy. At a rally in Richmond, Mr. Trump denounced the president’s policies as disruptive to the nation, encapsulating the anxious sentiments of many attendees that border security eclipses other electoral issues.

The debate over border policy is fueled by forecasts that more than 8 million people will have sought asylum or migrated through the southern U.S. border by September, marking a staggering 167% rise over five years.
