Minnesota Timberwolves starting guard Anthony Edwards missed the tip-off for Monday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers — showing that even NBA stars occasionally clock in late to start the week.

“I lost track of time,” the 22-year-old, who had started 264 straight games, told reporters after the game in Minneapolis.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker started in Edwards’ place as referees assessed the team with a delay-of-game violation.

After the game tipped off, Edwards made it to the court and was ready to check in at the scorer’s table.

The two-time All-Star works out with resistance bands outside the team locker room before games. Though he says he lost track of time, some speculated that he had a more embarrassing reason for his tardiness.

“Long lines at the bathroom,” said Michael Grady, Minnesota’s play-by-play announcer.

Edwards ended up playing 35 minutes, finishing with 13 points, six assists and four rebounds as the Timberwolves won 119-114 to take over the top spot in the Western Conference.
