Former President Donald Trump bashed the House Democrats who want to remove him from the election ballot after the Supreme Court ruled that states can’t do that.
“Well, it’s the same losers. They’re real losers. If they spent their time focusing on the country and making America great again, that would be a lot better than just wasting their time,” Mr. Trump said on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday.
“They don’t care about our country. I actually — I don’t think they love our country, frankly. They love themselves or their movement, and it’s a sick movement,” he said.
The former president said he’s more focused on winning the election, calling President Biden the “worst president in history.”
The Supreme Court ruled Monday in a unanimous decision that the 14th Amendment doesn’t let Colorado oust the former president from the state’s primary ballot.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, Maryland Democrat, said Monday on CNN that it’s now “up to Congress to act.”
“I am working with a number of my colleagues, including [Florida Rep.] Debbie Wasserman Schultz and [California Rep.] Eric Swalwell, to revive legislation that we had to set up a process by which we could determine that someone who committed insurrection is disqualified by Section 3 of the 14th Amendment,” Mr. Raskin said.
The 14th Amendment says a person who has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the U.S. can’t hold public office. Mr. Trump hasn’t been convicted of any of that.
“The House of Representatives already impeached Donald Trump for participating in insurrection by inciting it,” Mr. Raskin said. “The question is whether Speaker Mike Johnson would allow us to bring this to the floor of the House.”
Mr. Trump celebrated the high court’s ruling, taking to Truth Social to call it a “BIG WIN FOR AMERICA!!!”
