Former President Donald Trump says his loss in the D.C. Republican primary didn’t affect him Sunday.

“I purposely stayed away from the D.C. Vote because it is the ‘Swamp,’ with very few delegates, and no upside,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Birdbrain spent all of her time, money and effort there. Over the weekend we won Missouri, Idaho, and Michigan — BIG NUMBERS — Complete Destruction of a very weak opponent. The really big numbers will come on Super Tuesday.”

Ms. Haley won her first GOP primary in the District of Columbia, with 62.8% of the vote. Mr. Trump followed her, with 33.3%. He has won every other caucus and primary ahead of Super Tuesday on March 5.

Karoline Leavitt, press secretary for the Trump campaign, gave the former South Carolina governor a new nickname after her win — “Queen of the Swamp.”

“Tonight’s results in Washington D.C. reaffirm the object of President Trump’s campaign — he will drain the swamp and put America first,” Ms. Leavitt wrote on X. “While Nikki has been soundly rejected throughout the rest of America, she was just crowned Queen of the Swamp by the lobbyists and DC insiders that want to protect the failed status quo. The swamp has claimed their queen.”

Haley spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas said it wasn’t a surprise that D.C. Republicans voted for Ms. Haley over the former president.

“It’s not surprising that Republicans closest to Washington dysfunction are rejecting Donald Trump and all his chaos,” Ms. Perez-Cubas said in a statement, noting that Ms. Haley became the first woman in history to win a Republican primary.

On Super Tuesday, 15 states and one territory will hold primary elections.
