Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn lamented plans by her Democratic colleagues to effectively dismiss the two articles of impeachment passed by the House against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The Tennessee senator said Sunday that Americans should be “incensed.”

“What we’re hearing is for the first time ever in our nation’s history, Chuck Schumer is wanting to table the impeachment articles,” Ms. Blackburn said on “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.” “Every American should be incensed.”

Mr. Schumer, the Senate majority leader and New York Democrat, has signaled he’ll seek to quash the articles with a simple majority vote rather than hold an official trial once they’re transmitted from the House on April 10.

They were passed by House Republicans in February over accusations that Mr. Mayorkas has been derelict in his duty of handling illegal immigration at the southern border, charges that Democrats and the White House have brushed off as election-year politics.

“[Mayorkas] is doing Joe Biden’s bidding,” Ms. Blackburn said.
