Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy showed off his speed Saturday by setting an NFL scouting combine record time in the 40-yard dash.
The wide receiver completed the event in a lightning-fast 4.21 seconds. The crowd at the scouting event in Indianapolis roared when Worthy’s time, initially reported as 4.22 seconds, was posted on a video board.
“I just broke the record. It still doesn’t feel real,” Worthy told ESPN on Saturday. “Man, just a blessing to be able to do this in front of all these fans, with all these peers I’m with.”
The 20-year-old was the final athlete to run the event on Saturday. His second run barely edged out the 4.22 mark posted by John Ross at the 2017 combine.
Worthy’s performance caught the attention of some of the top players in the NFL, including Miami Dolphins speedster Tyreek Hill.
“4.2 is crazy,” Hill wrote on X. “Sheesh.”
According to Next Gen Stats, Worthy reached 24.41 miles per hour during his run. No other athlete surpassed 24 miles per hour at this year’s combine.
In three seasons at Texas, the California native caught 197 passes for 2,755 yards. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. projects Worthy to be selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the final pick in the first round of April’s NFL draft.
