Rep. Ro Khanna, a leading progressive from California, advised President Biden on Sunday to take “bold” action if he wants to regain the support of younger voters who are protesting his refusal to call for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.

“That’s why I think he needs to do something bold. This is a problem,” Mr. Khanna said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “My plea to him: Forget electoral politics. Do this for people in the Middle East. It’ll be a capstone to his legacy.”

More than 100,000 Democratic voters in the Michigan primary voted “uncommitted” last week in protest, a warning for the president’s reelection chances in the battleground state.

Israel was accused last week of shooting and killing dozens of Gazans and injuring hundreds more who swarmed an aid truck as the war-torn enclave’s humanitarian disaster continues to worsen.

“[Biden] can turn it around, not just by calling for a cease-fire, if he becomes the first American president to convene Gulf allies, to convene Israel municipal leaders in Palestine and civic society and said, ’I’m going to get this done, I’m going to recognize a Palestinian state, I’m going to have a two-state solution, and I’m going to recognize that the security of Israel matters, that the end of occupation matters,’” Mr. Khanna said. “He can become a hero.”
