Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley questioned Sunday whether she should still be bound by a pledge to the Republican National Committee to support whoever is the eventual GOP nominee.
“I have always said that I have serious concerns about Donald Trump,” Ms. Haley said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “The RNC pledge, I mean, at the time of the debate, we had to take it to where ’would you support the nominee?’ And in order to get on that debate stage, you had to say yes. The RNC is now not the same RNC. Now it’s Trump’s daughter-in-law.”
RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel is stepping down, and Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of the Republican front-runner, is eyeing to be the new co-chair.
Ms. Haley suggesting she may walk back her pledge comes as former President Donald Trump inches closer to becoming the presumptive nominee and her inability to so far win any state primaries.
“I think I’ll make what decision I wanna make, but that’s not something I’m thinking about,” she said.
Ms. Haley also questioned whether Mr. Trump would adhere to the U.S. Constitution if he is elected to a second term.
“I don’t know. I don’t know,” she said. “You always want to think someone will, but I don’t know.”
