Former Rep. Ken Buck said Rep. Lauren Boebert is no better than expelled former Rep. George Santos — she may even make him look better.
“She makes George Santos look like a saint,” Mr. Buck is heard saying in an audio played on “The Dan Caplis Show” during an interview with Ms. Boebert.
Mr. Santos, New York Republican, was expelled from Congress in December. He faces federal fraud and wire charges after the House Ethics Committee revealed there was “overwhelming evidence” that he broke the law multiple times and exploited his office for his personal profit.
In response to the audio of Mr. Buck, Ms. Boebert said the former congressman “is so irrelevant and such an embarrassment to Colorado.”
She said the constituents in his district were “frustrated” with him.
“And, you know, I really don’t care what he’s asked about me,” she said on the show.
The comments by Mr. Buck, a Republican who recently retired from his Colorado House seat before the end of his term, were made at a Rotary Club meeting in Colorado, according to Politico, which first reported the audio.
“I’ve been asked about her moving across the mountains to run in the 4th Congressional District, and I have not said anything,” Mr. Buck says on the audio.
He also mentions that he’s been asked about other controversies surrounding Ms. Boebert, a fellow Colorado Republican, such as her ex-husband and son, along with the public incident of her in a theater with another man.
Ms. Boebert announced that she would run in Mr. Buck’s former district, Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, last year. Mr. Buck’s early retirement has made it harder for her, since she would have to give up her seat in the 3rd Congressional District to take part in the special election to replace him, which she said she would not do.
