A burial crypt near the tombs of Marilyn Monroe and Hugh Hefner in Los Angeles is being auctioned off by Julien’s Auctions on Saturday.
The crypt that’s up at auction is “in the Corridor of Memories, Wall B, Space C-3 at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary in Los Angeles,” per the lot listing.
The tomb, big enough to fit one person, is one row above and four spaces to the left from Monroe’s, which was picked out by her ex-husband and New York Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio in 1962.
Hefner’s crypt, which he bought in 1992, according to the lot listing, is the one directly to the left of Monroe’s.
The crypt is part of an auction featuring memorabilia from Monroe and Hefner as well as the Playboy archives, running from 7 p.m. local time Thursday through Saturday. The crypt, the penultimate lot being offered in the auction, will be sold on that final day.
The current bid on the crypt is $50,000, although Julien’s estimates it will sell for $200,000 to $400,000.
Other lots of note include a 1953 original edition of the first issue of Playboy, featuring Monroe on the cover; Hefner’s burgundy smoking jacket, silk pajamas and slippers; a black evening gown Monroe wore in the 1955 film “The Seven Year Itch;” and decorations, furniture and artwork from Hefner’s Playboy Mansion.
In addition to Hefner and Monroe, other Hollywood greats buried at Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary include Farrah Fawcett, Truman Capote, Jack Lemmon and Natalie Wood, according to the lot listing.
