Sen. Tim Scott says having independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on the ballot would “no doubt” help former President Donald Trump win the election in November.

“What we do realize is having that third party candidate on the ballot, no matter the choice for vice president, is going to bleed votes from the Democrats,” Mr. Scott told Newsmax Wednesday.

The South Carolina Republican said Mr. Kennedy’s running mate is especially damning. The long-shot candidate chose Nicole Shanahan, a tech attorney and entrepreneur, this week.

Mr. Scott bashed Ms. Shanahan, calling her a “died-in-the-wool liberal” who “believes America’s only better if we change who we are.”

He criticized her for believing in the “redistribution of wealth.”

Mr. Scott ended his run for the White House in November and since then has been a strong advocate for another four years of Mr. Trump. The senator is considered to be on the shortlist of vice presidential candidates.

After Mr. Kennedy made his VP selection, Mr. Trump attacked the duo on Truth Social, calling the independent candidate “a Radical Left Democrat,” and Ms. Shanahan “even more ‘Liberal’ than him.”

He called the campaign “great for MAGA” because he’s “Crooked Joe Biden’s Political Opponent, not mine.”
