Rep. Annie Kuster of New Hampshire said Wednesday she won’t seek reelection this year in a state that has two seats.
The Democrat has represented the 2nd Congressional District, which extends from Nashua in southern New Hampshire to the Canadian border, for more than a decade. She said her sixth term will be her last.
“I will continue serving the people of New Hampshire until the end of my term in January 2025. In the months ahead, I will use my time to help Congress build on the progress we have made and finish the job for the American people,” Ms. Kuster said in a statement.
New Hampshire is considered a political battleground. It has a Republican governor in Chris Sununu, but its two U.S. senators are Democrats and the other House district is represented by another Democrat, Rep. Chris Pappas.
During her Capitol Hill tenure, Ms. Kuster has played a key role in raising awareness around the opioid crisis, which is hitting New Hampshire hard. She has co-chaired the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force and founded a congressional group on sexual violence.
“This work has been many things — rewarding, frustrating, inspiring and challenging. But, more than anything, it has been an honor,” she said.
Ms. Kuster said she will continue to lead the New Democrat Coalition, which pushes for bipartisan legislation.
