The owner of several Domino’s pizzerias in Pennsylvania has been hit with a massive fine after labor regulators found multiple violations of child labor laws.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry accused NWPA Pizza Inc. on Monday of violating the state’s Child Labor Act hundreds of times the past three years.
According to the department, NWPA broke the law 375 times by failing to provide breaks to minors, letting minors work outside mandated hours of 7 a.m.-7 p.m. and ordering excessive working hours.
The department handed a $344,000 fine to the pizza franchise owner and said managers at each of the seven stores operated by NWPA must undergo child labor law training.
“L&I is unwavering in its commitment to defending the rights of Pennsylvania’s workforce and ensuring the safety of our youngest workers from illegal employment practices,” the department’s secretary, Nancy Walker, said in a statement.
The findings come as regulators fight child labor violations at fast food businesses. The U.S. Department of Labor has found over 130,000 child labor offenses in the food industry since 2020. Recently, a Kentucky McDonald’s franchise was fined over $300,000 for dozens of such violations.
