Let me get this straight: Donald Trump must pay an unprecedentedly exorbitant and punitive half-billion-dollar fine for allegedly overstating the value of some of his properties in an industry where everyone overstates value (“New York AG James opposes Trump’s attempt to stave off judgment collection,” web, March 20).

Yet in his case, no one lost money. The banks that lent him money did their own due diligence in assessing the value of said properties as risk holders based on comparative local property values. They even continued lending him money many years afterward because he was a trustworthy customer.

Thus, in her well-documented, open obsession and campaign platform to “get Trump,” New York Attorney General Letitia James is willing to destroy New York City’s real estate market and continue the persecution one of our nation’s leading presidential candidates.

This is typical behavior practiced by tyrants in Third World banana republics to get rid of their political opponents. Beyond that, hundreds (if not thousands) of New Yorkers will be laid off as Ms. James confiscates Mr. Trump’s properties, further worsening the economic stagnation in America’s largest city.

Bear in mind that this political and selective “justice” can be wrought on any American; it is much larger than Donald Trump. This is about our nation’s formerly “blind” justice system being turned into an instrument of political tyranny. We should all be deeply concerned.
