Former President Donald Trump mocked former Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel after NBC News rescinded its offer for a political analyst job.
“Wow! Ronna McDaniel got fired by Fake News NBC. She only lasted two days, and this after McDaniel went out of her way to say what they wanted to hear,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social. “It leaves her in a very strange place, it’s called NEVER NEVERLAND, and it’s not a place you want to be.”
NBC News announced it was cutting ties with Ms. McDaniel Tuesday after many of the network’s anchors publicly criticized the decision to bring her on.
Chuck Todd, former host of the network’s “Meet the Press” said the former RNC head has “credibility issues.”
“There’s a reason why there are a lot of journalists at NBC News uncomfortable with this, because many of our professional dealings with the RNC over the last six years have been met with gaslighting, have been met with character assassination,” he said while appearing on “Meet the Press.”
Ms. McDaniel stepped down as head of the RNC earlier this month under pressure from Mr. Trump.
Mr. Trump has been a critic of both Ms. McDaniel and NBC News, and in his Truth Social post he called the network “weak.”
“They were BROKEN and EMBARRASSED by LOW RATINGS, HIGHLY OVERPAID, ‘TALENT.’ BRING BACK FREE AND FAIR PRESS,” he said.
In a letter to staff, NBCUniversal Group Chairman Cesar Conde apologized to the team for the decision to hire Ms. McDaniel.
He said the network decided to hire her “because of our deep commitment to presenting our audiences with a widely diverse set of viewpoints and experiences, particularly during these consequential times.”
