Tech influencers are sounding the alarm about a paneling problem with Telsa’s new Cybertruck.

On Tuesday, Elon Musk responded to a post where a user complained about the issue. The Tesla CEO’s post had a photo showing a substantial gap between the door and the car and called it the “worst gap I’ve seen on any door period.”

However, Mr. Musk was quick to dismiss the issue.

“Not a ‘door fit’ issue,” Mr. Musk replied. “About 15 Cybertrucks in service had an issue where the door striker loosened in the field, due to insufficient torque after door fit. This takes 5 mins to fix in service and has been addressed in production.”

The photo in the post was a screenshot from a video review of the Cybertruck from popular tech influencer Marques Brownlee. In his video with nearly 2 million views, he gave a generally positive review, pointing out some of the more obvious technical and aesthetic issues most have with the vehicle.

Still, many replies to Mr. Musk’s explanation were negative. X users complained that it’s unacceptable for a vehicle to come off the lot with an issue like the one detailed in the post, even if it is repairable.

Adding insult to injury, Miles Somerville, a producer of Mr. Brownlee’s videos, replied to Mr. Musk’s explanation with a homegrown fix for the striker issue. In a video posted to X, Mr. Somerville fixed the gap issue by applying gaffer tape around the Cybertruck’s striker.
