At the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the words “duty, honor, country” are effectively being replaced with “diversity, equity, inclusion” — and somehow today’s military leaders remain confused by the failure to reach recruitment levels (“West Point deletes ‘duty, honor, country’ from mission statement,” web, March 13). Maybe they should look in the mirror.

First distinguished graduates of West Point — such as Gens. Robert E. Lee, J.E.B. Stuart and Thomas Jonathan “Stonewall” Jackson — are denigrated. Now one of the most famous military mottoes of all time is being eliminated. Fort Bragg is now Fort Liberty. What’s next? Is the epic battle cry of “Follow me” going to be replaced with “Equity leaders to the rear”? I served in Vietnam combat under courageous military leadership, and brother, this isn’t it.
