Former President Donald Trump is leading President Biden in Nevada ahead of their all-but-certain general election showdown.
Mr. Trump holds a 45% to 40% lead over Mr. Biden, according to a Noble Predictive Insights poll that also shows Mr. Trump has a 40% to 33% lead over the incumbent when voters have the option of supporting third-party contenders Robert F Kennedy Jr. (11%), Cornel West (4%) and Jill Stein (2%).
“At this point in the election year, this NVPOP data may act as a warning sign — that, even when the primary is over, and the choice is a clear head-to-head, Nevadans want Trump just a little more than Biden,” said David Byler, NPI’s chief of research.
The findings are another warning sign for Mr. Biden.
Numerous polls show the 81-year-old Democrat either locked in a tight race with Mr. Trump or trailing him, including in key battleground states such as Nevada.
The Noble Predictive Insights poll found Mr. Trump leads Mr. Biden by 11 percentage points among independent voters. Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden are not viewed favorably, but the Democrat’s numbers are worse.
Still, Nevada voters are more likely to vote for a generic Democrat over a generic Republican, which offers Mr. Biden some hope that he can strengthen his hand over the coming months.
“Biden is in less-than-ideal shape, but Nevada’s DNA is light blue. There could be some extra strength for Biden there,” Mr. Byler said.
