The Democratic National Committee has a gift for the new members of the Republican National Committee that may help them get the organization’s fundraising numbers up to snuff — a piggy bank.
The gift comes after Trump loyalists Michael Whatley and Lara Trump were elected Friday to take over for longtime RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. Since then, they’ve fired more than 60 people to save money.
The DNC said it has the piggy bank, replete with aviators, the signature sunglass look of President Biden, and the RNC is welcome to pick it up, according to The Hill.
“It must be demoralizing walking into your first week in a new job knowing that you’re boarding a sinking ship. So, as newly elected Trump loyalists Michael Whatley and Lara Trump start as chair and co-chair of the RNC, we wanted to send them something to raise their spirits even if it doesn’t fix their abysmal fundraising numbers,” Alex Floyd, the DNC’s rapid response director, said in a statement Wednesday.
He added, “Lucky for them, this piggy bank isn’t just a great tool to teach basic fiscal responsibility — it’s also plastic, so it’ll be the last thing the Republican Party has that isn’t broken past the point of repair by November.”
Reports speculate that former President Donald Trump pushed for his daughter-in-law to be a co-chair so she can make the committee pay for his legal expenses for the multiple civil and criminal cases he faces.
Before she was elected, Lara Trump told NBC News that she thinks Republican voters are interested in seeing the RNC fund those bills.
Reports filed with the Federal Election Commission last month showed that the DNC holds a significantly higher amount of cash on hand than the RNC.
