Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska on Friday endorsed Nikki Haley’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination, making her the first member of the U.S. Senate to back her campaign.

Ms. Murkowski has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and was among the seven Republican senators who voted to impeach him for inciting the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

“I’m proud to endorse Gov. Nikki Haley,” Ms. Murkowski said in a statement. “America needs someone with the right values, vigor and judgment to serve as our next president — and in this race, there is no one better than her.”

Nikki will be a strong leader and uphold the ideals of the Republican Party while serving as a president for all Americans,” she said.

The endorsement comes ahead of more than a dozen nomination contests on Super Tuesday.

Ms. Haley is looking to score her first victory of the primary cycle.
