President Biden’s attempt on TikTok to rip former President Donald Trump was met with a flood of comments about the skyrocketing cost of living.

The video, posted by the BidenHQ account, featured an unidentified female influencer discussing allegations that Mr. Trump used a racial slur during the filming of Season 1 of “The Apprentice.”

Social media influence took a new turn this past weekend as Mr. Trump joined TikTok, quickly amassing millions of followers despite his previous efforts to ban the app. In response, Mr. Biden’s team posted a video Sunday in which the influencer tried to portray Trump as a “lifelong racist.”

The video included a clip of former “Apprentice” contestant and Trump White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman, who suggested the allegations might be true. She has claimed she heard the tape, which Mr. Trump and his team have denied exists.

Despite the TikTok video’s intention to highlight Mr. Trump’s alleged behavior, it went viral for unexpected reasons. Many commenters expressed frustration over inflation, asking questions like, “Why is my rent expensive?” and “Why can’t I afford anything?”

Other comments were “I can’t afford eggs” and “I can’t wait to afford a house.”

An account called End Wokeness commented, “HAHAHA this is epic. Biden’s campaign is desperately trying to win black voters on TikTok … it’s backfiring spectacularly.”
