A Hallmark Channel holiday movie will involve the Kansas City Chiefs and be filmed at the NFL team’s Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, the two parties announced Tuesday.
“Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” will be filmed entirely in Kansas City, which hosts both the Chiefs and Hallmark’s headquarters.
As the title suggests, the movie’s plot also involves the football team with a Chiefs superfan played by Hunter King and her family being evaluated as finalists for the team’s “Fan of the Year” contest by the Chiefs Director of Fan Engagement, played by Tyler Hynes.
“As a club, we pride ourselves on exploring new ways to grow our brand, as well as connect with new audiences. This partnership unites two passionate fanbases and gives us an opportunity to show Chiefs Kingdom’s energy and tradition on one of the most-watched channels during the holiday season,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said.
The film marks the first time Arrowhead has been used to make a Hallmark movie. Production is slated to start next month.
It is not the first time the Chiefs and Hallmark have teamed up.
In a trailer for the NFL postseason, the two parties released a trailer for a fake movie called “Falling for Football.”
In the trailer, a bride jilted at the altar because the groom got tickets to a playoff game the day of the wedding meets a Chiefs merchandise store employee played by Hynes. Chiefs guard Trey Smith and punter Tommy Townsend appeared in the trailer.
“There’s a limited amount of places, it seems, where there is very sincere, pure interaction and intention. I feel like there is a bit of a mirror image with that specific fandom and Hallmark Channel … I think there’s a bit of a crossover and there’s a mix of that audience that’s into being very passionate and sincere in their wholesome pursuit of entertainment,” Hynes told Variety about the partnership in January.
