A Southwest Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Oklahoma City descended to 525 feet above a neighborhood in Yukon, Oklahoma, this week.

Southwest flight 4069 was on its way to Will Rogers World Airport just after midnight Wednesday when it hit the low altitude and set off a warning for air traffic control, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The plane got as low as 400 feet above Yukon High School, according to OKC NBC affiliate KFOR-TV.

“I was kind of like halfway in between sleep and being awake. … And I thought at first, like a storm was blowing in … because it just sounded like a wall of wind. And I looked out the window where the sound was coming from. … A few blocks away is the high school. And I just see a plane,” resident Spencer Basoco said.

The plane was a Boeing 727-800, according to tracking website FlightAware.

Southwest and the FAA are looking into the incident.

Southwest is following its robust Safety Management System and is in contact with the Federal Aviation Administration to understand and address any irregularities with the aircraft’s approach to the airport. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees,” a Southwest spokesperson told The Oklahoman.
