A tall structure has been discovered in the sands north of Las Vegas, adding to similar sightings around the globe.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that the monolith was spotted near Gass Peak by their search and rescue unit over the weekend. The shiny structure bears a striking resemblance to another found in Utah several years ago.

In a post on X, the police department wrote alongside an image of the monolith, “We see a lot of weird things when people go hiking like not being prepared for the weather, not bringing enough water … but check this out!”

The appearance of the monolith follows a recent sighting in Wales, where a hiker captured video of a similar UFO-like structure on a hillside along the border with England.

The hiker, Craig Muir, recorded footage of the object at Hay Bluff near Hay-on-Wye, according to Storyful. “I come up here most days and I’ve never seen this before,” Mr. Muir says in the video, adding that it “almost looks like a UFO.”

These mysterious structures have also surfaced in Belgium, Romania and the Isle of Wight, an island in the English Channel.

One of the earliest discoveries of these monoliths occurred in November 2020, when Utah state wildlife employees, conducting a helicopter survey of sheep, found an object estimated at 10 to 12 feet high in a remote area.

Bret Hutchings, the helicopter pilot, told Salt Lake City NBC affiliate KSL-TV that it was “about the strangest thing that I’ve come across out there in all my years of flying.”

Authorities noted that the monolith had been installed in the ground with “no obvious indication” of who might have placed it there, as stated in a press release from the Utah Department of Public Safety.
