Former President Donald Trump says he has a “good idea” of whom he plans to select as his running mate and hinted the person works on Capitol Hill.

Mr. Trump is expected to unveil his vice presidential pick at the Republican National Convention in July.

“Look, we have some pretty talented people. I have a pretty good idea,” Mr. Trump told Fox News host Aishah Hasnie.

The presumptive GOP nominee said Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin could be in the running for the vice presidential slot.

“I think I could consider that,” he said. “Yes. I haven’t been asked that question, but he would be on that list.”

Yet he also said the pick was “probably” in the room during his meetings with Senate and House Republicans on Thursday.

If that is the case, it would rule out North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, who is considered to be on the shortlist.

Possible picks from Congress include Sens. J.D. Vance of Ohio, Marco Rubio of Florida, Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Tim Scott of South Carolina, and Reps. Elise Stefanik of New York and Byron Donalds of Florida.

Mr. Trump visited Capitol Hill to rally with House Republicans and discuss a potential agenda for 2025.

He also used a meeting on the Senate side to bury the hatchet with Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, after on-again, off-again feuds in recent years.

Mr. McConnell faulted the former president for the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, by Trump supporters, though later said he would support Mr. Trump as the GOP nominee.

Mr. Trump’s visit was his first stop at the Capitol since the Jan. 6 riot.

“It was a great meeting. There’s tremendous unity in the Republican Party,” Mr. Trump said.

The GOP convention will be held July 15-18 in Wisconsin. Mr. Trump reportedly called the host city, Milwaukee, a “horrible” city, though later clarified he was talking about crime rates.

Democrats jumped on the comments, however, and pointed to Mr. Trump’s recent criminal conviction.
