Former President Donald Trump wants the rest of Bitcoin to be made in America, saying it will help the country become “energy dominant.”
“VOTE FOR TRUMP! Bitcoin mining may be our last line of defense against a [central bank digital currency],” he wrote on Truth Social Tuesday. “Biden’s hatred of Bitcoin only helps China, Russia and the Radical Communist Left.”
He added, “We want all remaining Bitcoin to be MADE IN THE USA!!! It will help us be ENERGY DOMINANT!!!!”
His post came after Bitcoin Magazine called him “the best choice for Bitcoin” in a report he linked to in the post.
On Tuesday, he hosted Bitcoin miners at his Florida Mar-a-Lago estate where he promised to give the industry his support.
His backing of the cryptocurrency shifted into higher gear last month when he told the crowd at the Libertarian National Convention he will “keep [Massachusetts Democratic Sen.] Elizabeth Warren and her goons away from your Bitcoin.”
He also said he would “never allow” the creation of a central bank for digital currency.
President Biden has been wary of leaning into cryptocurrency. He angered the Bitcoin crowd after he vetoed legislation last month that would’ve struck down a Securities and Exchange Commission rule that directs those who oversee crypto for customers to keep assets on a balance sheet.
“My administration will not support measures that jeopardize the well-being of consumers and investors. Appropriate guardrails that protect consumers and investors are necessary to harness the potential benefits and opportunities of crypto-asset innovation,” he said in a statement accompanying the veto.
