Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene compared former President Donald Trump to Jesus while speaking about his recent conviction.

“The Democrats and the fake news media want to constantly talk about, ‘Oh, President Trump is a convicted felon,’” Ms. Greene, Georgia Republican, said at the Las Vegas rally Sunday. “Well, you want to know something? The man that I worship is also a convicted felon, and he was murdered on a Roman cross.”

“We’ve seen political corruption. We have seen this throughout history. This is nothing new,” she added.

The former president was convicted last month on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

Mr. Trump and his Republican allies have railed against the conviction that made him the first convicted former president in history. He has said he plans to appeal the verdict.

The date of his sentencing falls just days before the start of the Republican National Convention, where he will be nominated.

His presentencing interview with a probation officer was set for Monday.

Mr. Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee said they raised a whopping $141 million in May, with a big chunk of the funds coming after his conviction.
