President Biden will now be putting a lid on the day earlier than ever.

Mr. Biden told Democratic governors he will no longer be scheduling events after 8 p.m. so he can get more sleep, according to a CNN report Thursday.

Citing “three sources briefed on his comments,” the network reported that Mr. Biden made the remarks during the White House meeting on Wednesday as part of his efforts to assure the state leaders that he can win the November election and be a strong president for another four years.

Those words about no later-evening events did not reassure the governors, who left the room “frustrated” as a result, CNN reported.

They also were reportedly not happy about what CNN called a “statement of loyalty and enthusiasm from them distributed by the Biden campaign on Thursday.”

Mr. Biden called the meeting because of his widely panned performance in last week’s debate, during which the 81-year-old president often looked old, confused and incoherent.

That debate started at 9 p.m., which raises the question of what Mr. Biden’s new schedule would mean for the next debate, which is scheduled for Sept. 10 with the same 9 p.m. start time.
