Anita Dunn, a longtime advisor to President Biden, will leave the White House next week, she announced Tuesday.
Ms. Dunn will join a super PAC supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign. She is the first major departure from the White House since Mr. Biden bowed out of the presidential race on July 21.
In a statement, Mr. Biden said Ms. Dunn has served the nation “through three administrations and countless campaigns for candidates at every level.”
“She’s not only a key senior member of our team that helped us win a historic election in 2020 — she’s also been an invaluable part of our White House. She’s tough and tested and her experience and intellect have helped us deliver historic results for the American people,” he said.
Ms. Dunn will become a senior adviser to Future Forward, a PAC that has committed at least $300 million to boost Ms. Harris, and an adviser to its partner group, Future Forward USA Action.
“I am grateful to President Biden and Vice President Harris for their leadership and giving me the opportunity to be part of what they accomplished for the American people,” Ms. Dunn said in a statement.
Ms. Dunn, a veteran political operative, served as an advisor to Mr. Biden’s campaign against President Trump in 2020. She joined the Biden White House in 2021 before leaving briefly to return in 2022 as a top adviser to the president.
She has also overseen the White House communications operation and was an advisor on Mr. Biden’s 2024 campaign. She and her husband, Bob Bauer, were part of the president’s debate prep team and reportedly got some of the blame for Mr. Biden’s disastrous performance.
Prior to her role in the White House, she was a managing director at consulting firm SKDK and was a close advisor to President Obama.
