House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green said he will lead a trip Monday to Butler, Pennsylvania, to get a first-hand look at where a gunman came within a quarter of an inch of assassinating former President Donald Trump.

Lawmakers will tour the site, then speak to reporters.

“This committee continues to seek answers from DHS and Secret Service for the security lapses resulting in the near-assassination of former President Trump and the tragic murder of Corey Comperatore,” the Tennessee Republican said. “We will visit the site on Monday morning to better understand how this near assassination took place.”
The visit will take place at the same time the Secret Service’s director is scheduled to testify to a different committee on Capitol Hill.

The two events are part of a bipartisan demand for answers about how the gunman was able to gain access to a rooftop that gave him line of sight on Mr. Trump, who was speaking at a political rally. The former president said his life was saved because he turned his head to look at a chart behind him, causing a round to nick his ear but miss his skull.

Mr. Green on Friday announced a subpoena served on Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for documents showing the Secret Service’s plans for security at the site.

Mr. Green said the agency has delivered only “vague” answers.
