A 7-month-old baby boy had to be taken to the hospital in Philadelphia after being shot in the leg. The woman police allege is responsible has been arrested.
The shooting happened at around 5:51 p.m. Thursday. Philadelphia Police Department video shows the suspect approaching the baby’s stroller and his two parents standing by it before opening fire. When the boy’s mother reacted to the injury to her child, the suspect cussed and told her “[Expletive] your baby.”
PPD confirmed to Philadelphia ABC affiliate WPVI-TV Friday that the woman seen on the video had been arrested.
She has been identified as Dominique Pillups, 28, according to Philadelphia NBC affiliate WCAU-TV.
Neither of the boy’s parents, who do not live in the neighborhood where the incident occurred, were at the scene when police arrived, PPD told WPVI-TV. Instead, an unnamed good Samaritan and neighborhood resident took the boy to the hospital.
“When I find out the baby was 7 months and both parents said they have warrants. They got out the car and I took the baby. I just felt like I had to protect this child. … This person came up and didn’t care with no remorse and just fired and walked away like nothing happened,” the good Samaritan, who did not want to be identified, told WCAU-TV.
It took police a couple of hours to find the boy’s parents, who had fled the area because they feared arrest due to outstanding warrants against them, PPD Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum said at a press conference. The father, Lt. Rosenbaum said, appears to have been the intended target.
“This looks like this all stems from a $100 narcotics debt, is what we are being told,” Lt. Rosenbaum added.
Neither parent was injured in the shooting, nor was anyone else in the area.
