Former President Donald Trump celebrated the Supreme Court’s ruling on his presidential immunity claim by attacking special counsel Jack Smith, who is in charge of the election interference case against Mr. Trump in Washington.

“A really bad day for Deranged Jack Smith, the wacko prosecutor used for Crooked Joe Biden’s attack on his Political Opponent. Today, as in the past, the Supreme Court gave the Deranged One a high level SPANKING!” he posted early Tuesday on Truth Social.

The high court ruled Monday that presidents have absolute immunity for actions that are official duties. The justices ruled that presidents do not have immunity for unofficial acts.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said it’s up to the lower courts to sort out which of Mr. Trump’s actions qualify for immunity.

The ruling was 6-3 along ideological lines.

Mr. Trump said Mr. Smith’s “’real’ bosses” in the Justice Department, along with Attorney General Merrick Garland, “must be furious at him.”

He said Mr. Garland’s “once great reputation has been shattered by these Thugs.”

“Garland ought to call an end to this never ending HOAX, and let people focus on bringing back Greatness to America!” he posted.

Mr. Trump had argued that he should be exempt from prosecution in the criminal cases on his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election because it was his “right and duty to investigate, and speak on, the rigged and stolen 2020 Presidential Election.”

He faces two criminal cases on his election efforts — a federal one in Washington with Mr. Smith and a state case in Georgia that was brought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

He also faces a federal case in Florida over the mishandling of classified documents in his Mar-a-Lago estate. He was convicted of state felony charges in May for falsifying business records in his New York hush money trial.
