Sen. Sherrod Brown on Friday joined the deluge of Democratic lawmakers calling on President Biden to step aside from the presidential race.

Mr. Brown, Ohio Democrat, became the fourth Senate Democrat to call on Mr. Biden to drop out of the race, and the second who is facing a tough reelection bid that could have consequences for control of the upper chamber.

“I agree with the many Ohioans who have reached out to me,” Mr. Brown said in a statement on X. “At this critical time, our full attention must return to these important issues. I think the President should end his campaign.”

The lawmaker is in the midst of a tight race for a fourth term in the Senate against businessman and GOP candidate Bernie Moreno, which is one of a handful of races with vulnerable incumbents that Republicans hope to flip to take control of the Senate.

Sen. Jon Tester, Montana Democrat, is in a similar position, and called on Mr. Biden to step aside on Thursday. They join Sens. Peter Welch, Vermont Democrat, and Martin Heinrich, New Mexico Democrat, as the lone lawmakers in the upper chamber to call on the president to leave the race.

Mr. Biden has so far refused to heed the growing calls from lawmakers and donors to exit.
