MILWAUKEE — Former President Trump only mentioned President Biden by name twice in his more than hour-long speech at the Republican National Convention.
He wasn’t expected to name Mr. Biden at all.
“It is a shame the damage this administration has done,” he said. “The damage that he has done to this country is unthinkable.”
He also mentioned “Crazy” Nancy Pelosi, and called on Democrats to stop “destroying our country“ and stop “weaponizing” the justice system against him.
He criticized the Biden administration’s approach to immigration, inflation and challenges on the world stage.
“If Democrats want to unify the country they should drop these partisan witchhunts,” Mr. Trump said. “They should do that without delay and allow an election to proceed that is worthy of our people. We are going to win it anyway.”
Mr. Trump also vowed to slow inflation and lower the cost of energy by opening up oil and gas production. He pledged to end the “illegal immigration crisis” by strengthening border security and finishing the border wall, and “end every single international crisis,” including the Irsael-Palestinain conflict.
“Under President Bush, Russia invaded Georgia. Under President Obama, Russia took Crimea,” Mr Trump said. “Under the current administration, Russia is after all of Ukraine.”
“Under President Trump, Russia took nothing,” he said.
He said he would protect Social Security and Medicare, eliminate taxes on restaurant tips, and launch the biggest deportation of migrants in history.
“Four months from now, we will have an incredible victory, and we will begin the four greatest years in the history of our country,” he said. “Together, we will launch a new era of safety, prosperity and freedom for citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed.”
Mr. Trump also joked that the $250 million the party spent on the convention had strings attached.
“I hope you will remember this in November and give us your vote,” he said. “I am trying to buy your vote. I will be honest about that.”
